Working Girl

Coffee? Tea? Me?

I'm back working in the city. I'm dating. I have crazy curly hair. I don't smoke, my guilty pleasure is food trucks, and I love me some designer stilettos; but honestly, I probably look like a dog walking on its hind legs (I still go for it). In no way do I feel like Carrie Bradshaw, nor want to be her (she was my least favorite), but I am excited to be back in the city, dressing up for work, and walking the streets of Boston.

It's funny, my last job, in fashion, I didn't care how looked at work, but now I feel I have a fresh start, and my wardrobe looks shiny and new. All the outfits my co-workers haven't seen me in, "desk to dinner" looks because my peers actually want to go out after 5pm in the area, the chance to run into someone at lunch and I just so happen to be wearing new shoes! These are the things I get overly excited about. It's like, all my life I've been playing dress-up, and now I'm in the playoffs.

I'm working for Scenic Travel now at South Station (photographed below), a luxury cruise line doing all the US designs: print and digital. I become such a nerd when I get to package everything multiple assets together: postcards, flyers, mini brochures, web banners, a landing page, and everything is neatly designed with fluidity. I describe design like a family tree. You should be able to look at all the pieces of a campaign, and know they come from the same tree. Now my issue is, I have more liberties creatively, and then my design ADD kicks in, and I want to try different looks for each thing. Second issue: my office is right across from where all the food trucks park.

If you're looking for a fun day walking around Boston, go down the Rose Kennedy Greenway, see some outdoor art, be along the waterfront, and catch a bite to eat with any of the food trucks.

One of my favorite go-tos in fashion is the monochromatic look. I love denim, I just feel comfortable, it's easy to wash, yet not always "business" attire appropriate. Doing colored denim and having a mono look elevates your jeans, and you pull off a suit vibe. When you break it down, this look is a t shirt and jeans, but the little touches of the formal jacket, heels, and doing a red bold look, it takes the casual out of this equation.

All photos done by Jamal Weaver Photography. Yes, the same Jamal from the amazing show So You Think You can Dance. Jamal and I went to high school together and recently reconnected. Jamal is one of the most talented people I have ever met, we did Drama club together, an amazing dancer (obviously), and now amazing photographer. Check out his work, and follow him on Instagram!
